1
The Seed — Did You Prepare the Ground?
Stage 1 must happen before Stage 2 can land
When you first made contact or started working with this person, did you mention that most of your work comes through personal introduction?
◆
Did you explain why that benefits both sides — that everyone already trusts each other before work begins, and so everyone wins?
2
The HEM — Did a Real Moment Occur?
Not just good work — a genuinely felt emotional moment
Have you recently completed work for this person — not just quoted or discussed, but actually delivered?
◆
Did something go particularly well — a problem solved fast, an emergency resolved, a deadline met under pressure?
◆
Did they actually express relief, gratitude or genuine satisfaction — in words, tone or body language? Be honest. Did you feel it from them, or are you assuming it?
3
Triple Trust Engine — Are You Protected?
Without this, your ask lacks the safety net that makes people say yes
Can you clearly state your risk reversal — exactly how you'll make things right at your cost if anything goes wrong — so they always look good for referring you?
◆
Can you state your guarantee — a specific, concrete commitment to outcome that removes the risk of referring you completely?
◆
Can you genuinely commit — hand on heart — that you will never contact their network without a proper introduction, and that their relationships are completely sacred to you?
4
The Six Steps — Do You Know the System?
Knowing what to say and when is everything
Do you know the exact two-part Shift sequence — the callback first, then waiting for their response, then "With that in mind, I have something important to ask, if I may?" — and do you understand why the silence in between is critical?
◆
Do you know how to coach for value — asking open questions that help them discover their own emotional transformation — without telling them how good your work was?
◆
Do you know the two strikes rule for objection handling — affirm first, explore gently on strike one, exit gracefully on strike two — and do you understand that the seeds stay in the ground regardless?
◆
Do you know how to follow through — asking what will make the prospect want to respond, getting agreement on the introduction method, and making it easy without chasing?
5
Trust — Is It Really There?
Trust is the foundation of everything. Including referrals.
Is there genuine trust in place with this person — whether built over time or transferred through a referral introduction — or is the relationship still primarily transactional?
◆
Does this person engage warmly with you — do they know you by name, take your calls, respond positively — or is contact still fairly formal?
6
Confidence — Are You Ready in Yourself?
The conversation has to feel natural. Not rehearsed. Not forced.
Do you feel genuinely confident going into this conversation — not nervous, not apologetic — just calm and certain that what you're offering is genuinely valuable?
◆
If they say no or hesitate, do you trust yourself to affirm their position, exit gracefully if needed, and protect the relationship above everything else?
